It’s looking likely that a new Sonic Collection is coming this year in advance of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 30th-anniversary celebrations. The potential Sonic 30th-anniversary collection was leaked by a French retailer and may arrive sooner than fans might think, despite it not having been announced yet. The collection also corresponds with rumors from earlier this year, but when’s it coming out?
When is the Sonic Collection release date?
The Sonic Collection will likely release in time for the hedgehog’s 30th anniversary on June 23rd. While it hasn’t got a firm and official release date yet, with retailer listings already going up, it seems likely the collection will arrive next month.
The retailer that leaked the collection’s existence is the French store Sogamely, which now lists “Sonic Collection EU Version PS4” with no other details. There are no Sonic game collections on PS4 so whatever this is must be a new release, and if a retailer is putting it up now then it’s likely SEGA is planning a reveal very soon.
This leak also tallies with previous rumors from industry insider ZippoSpeaks earlier this year, who suggests the new collection will include many games from Sonic’s past thirty years that haven’t been made available on previous collections, such as the Sonic Advance games, Pocket Adventure, and Sonic R. It may or may not include the previous Wii-exclusive (and well-regarded) Sonic Colors, which is already rumored for a re-release on other platforms this year.
Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka previously suggested that 2021 would be a “big year” for Sonic the Hedgehog, with at least one new game probably planned alongside this collection. Don’t expect the new movie, however, as that’s not due out until next year, although do expect it to feature both Tails and Knuckles, who were revealed thanks to leaked set photos.
