Square Enix recently released a port of the Nier: Automata – Become as Gods Edition on Xbox Game Pass for PC. This new port fixes many of the issues still present in the original PC version released on Steam. It’s no surprise then that owners of Nier: Automata on Steam are upset that Square Enix released this new version but didn’t patch the Game of the YorHa Edition, which is still on sale on Steam.
Why are fans upset about Nier: Automata releasing on Xbox Game Pass on PC?
Nier: Automata’s PC port on Steam has long been criticized for its numerous issues. Despite the game’s success, Square Enix, unfortunately, only produced a few patches for the original PC version of the game, the last of which was released over two years ago. This forced fans to fix the crashes, resolution issues, and locked framerate with mods. The Become as Gods Edition on Xbox Game Pass on PC essentially removes the need for these mods while adding things missing from the Steam version like FidelityFX, 4K UI textures, and HDR.
Square Enix may bring Nier: Automata – Become as Gods Edition to Steam as an update. Considering it’s only been out on Game Pass for PC for a few days, a patch could be coming soon. However, Square Enix hasn’t released a statement about the matter as of writing. For now, fans are taking to the game’s Steam discussion board and review bombing it in protest of Square Enix’s lack of communication about the issue.
Nier: Automata isn’t the only game to hit Xbox Game Pass for PC to get a new version that’s better than its Steam counterpart. Fans have noted that The Evil Within has a first-person mode, an infinite ammo mode, new camera settings, gameplay adjustments, and better performance. Platform exclusive patches haven’t been a trend in gaming yet. Hopefully, this isn’t the start.
