Latest Dying Light 2 dev update does little to assuage doubts about the state of the game

Techland released a Dying Light 2 dev update today, asking fans to wait for news on the game. There was no mention of a solid Dying Light 2 release date, and only around 20 seconds of the game shown. However, the end of the short trailer shows that the game is now shooting for a release window of “2021.”

When will Dying Light 2 get a release date?

Dying Light 2 release window

Dying Light 2 was announced at E3 2018 and was one of the most anticipated games shown. The original game’s unique play style and numerous updates eventually won it many fans, and they were ready for more. However, besides a few trailers and a gameplay demo, the game has been largely MIA since then.

The development of Dying Light 2 has been seemingly fraught with issues. Between COVID-19 and the tumultuous environment reported by TheGamer, many wondered if Dying Light 2 would end up being released at all. Unfortunately, this latest video does very little to answer that question.

The game was originally scheduled to launch in Spring 2020, but its release date was reevaluated in January 2020, according to a dev. Since then, Techland has refrained from setting another firm release window, and even now, we only have the vague “2021” to go on.

The very end of the update video states that fans can now head to the official Discord to find a link for a form that can be used to send questions to the devs. The devs will answer these questions in a series of AMA-style videos at a later date.

Dying Light 2 may release this year. However, the allegations of a poor work environment exposed by TheGamer and the departure of Chris Avellone after sexual misconduct allegations don’t bode well for the game. Fans should keep an eye out for further news on the game because the situation will likely come to a head sooner rather than later.
