PS3 Rumored To Receive Hardware Revision

It's only been 2 years since the PS3 was first slimmed down, cutting the price at both Sony's hardware costs and consumer level. While we don't believe the PS3 will be slimmed down any further, a new rumor has surfaced saying that another PS3 hardware revision is in the pipeline.

After looking closely at the rumor, we highly doubt that the appearance will be altered, instead only affecting the BD-ROM drive inside each new PS3 sold. The rumor says that a new layer of copy-protection will be built into future PS3's BD-ROM drive.

That's not surprising given all of the hacking and piracy the PS3 suffered at the hands of GeoHot and others. Funny how quickly that was forgotten after Anonymous and the PSN hackers surfaced (or are they one in the same?).

Additionally, the rumor says that the new console will be accompanied by a price drop, and it could happen as soon as Tokyo Game Show in September. However, we're willing to be that if it happens, it will happen at gamescom in Cologne, Germany, which coincidentally is where Sony announced the first PS3 revision and price drop to the current $299 price point.
