cyberpunk 2077 delay not happening

Cyberpunk 2077 delay rumors squashed by CD Projekt Red

Another Cyberpunk 2077 delay isn’t happening, CD Projekt Red has confirmed, with the developer again confirming the RPG’s December release date. CDPR made the statement following speculation that the game’s launch would be pushed back into 2021, saying that the company was updating its assets to prepared for the launch later this year.

The rumors suggesting Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed again stemmed from Twitter user ‘Tiffany Treadmore,’ who had previously seemingly leaked key industry information such as the Half-Life: Alyx reveal and E3 2020’s cancelation. Treadmore claimed that “unhappy things” from the CDPR camp led her to believe that Cyberpunk 2077 would be pushed back once more. Additionally, fans suggested that CD Projekt Red had removed the game’s December release date from its social media profiles.

We reached out to CDPR for clarification as the leaker’s tweet began to pick up steam, though CDPR told us that it would not offer comment on rumors and speculation. However, as the rumor continued to gain traction, CDPR has now clarified that Cyberpunk 2077 will retain its December 10, 2020 release date.

“As a rule, we don’t comment on rumors or speculation,” CDPR said in a statement to IGN. “But I will confirm we were just taking time to update all of our assets to reflect the new launch date of December 10th.”

CDPR’s comments specifically center around the reports that the game’s December 10 release date was briefly removed from its social profiles, though do not address Treadmore’s comments. For her part, Treadmore has doubled down (via Twitter) and said that she has been “hearing bad stuff internally that there will likely be another delay till January 2021.”

However, with CDPR reaffirming that Cyberpunk 2077 is set for its current December 10, 2020 release date, the continuing rumors must be taken with a handful of salt. It would be incredibly unlikely for CDPR to continue to peddle a 2020 release for the game if that wasn’t the case, especially considering its touted release date is only a month away.
