E3 favorite Ikumi Nakamura hasn’t quite settled down at a new job just yet, but she already knows what she wants to do after the lockdowns are over. She thinks the chances are “pretty high” that she can get Okami 2 made — and she’s going to Capcom to get it done.
“Actually [Okami 2VGC is] the project that I’d like to make reality the most,” Nakamura said in an interview with IGN Japan (via ). “As long as I go after it, I have the feeling that the chances are pretty high that it might become a reality.”

Okami originally launched for the PS2 all the way back in 2006. This action-adventure game had a unique cel-shaded art style and was well-liked by its fans, but the possibility of any sequels has since sat in limbo. The game did get an HD re-release in recent years, but that’s been about it until now.
Ikumi Nakamura — a game developer who achieved a level of popularity after a stellar E3 presentation — had previously teased making a new Okami game after visiting Platinum Games in late 2019.
“Okami is going to be back!” Nakamura said at the time.
Now, it looks like she’s dead set on making those dreams a reality and is planning on pitching the project to Capcom as soon as she can safely do so. Considering CAPCOM’s recent penchant for reviving older games, it looks like she might have a good chance at getting Okami 2 made.
