THQ Nordic isn’t done with remasters if a recent “leak” is accurate. And given that this “leak” showed up on Microsoft’s official store with a ton of information probably points to said listing being very true. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning appeared on the official Xbox storefront complete with screen shots, box art, description, and its release date, which is set for August 11, 2020. THQ Nordic has not officially announced this remaster yet nor has it commented on the matter.
Twitter user h0x0d noticed the random listing late on Wednesday night. But that listing doesn’t seem to be promising more than just a mere touch-up. It doesn’t look like it will have any extra content or noteworthy mechanical improvements. However, it does look a lot nicer than its original 2012 version, which is evident in its included screen shots.

Although it only showed up on the Xbox storefront, it is likely also coming to PS4 and the PC. And if it is like 2018’s Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, the PC owners of the original should get this upgrade for free. It will also probably have some sort of ridiculously expensive collector’s edition, too, as THQ Nordic seems into that sort of thing.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was well-received when it came out, but was more famous for the downward spiral its developer, 38 Studios, went through. It filed for bankruptcy in June 2012, around four months after the game’s release. This was only part of the story as the team was investigated by the FBI, defaulted on its loans, went through a few lawsuits, and more.
38 Studios then sold the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise (which included the canceled MMO that was supposed to take place in the same universe) to THQ Nordic in 2018. The studio implosion mostly overshadowed the game’s quality, but hopefully now it’ll finally get to be noticed more for its own merits, for better or worse, with this remaster.
