PewDiePie is raising money for George Floyd protests and police violence victims

PewDiePie has announced that he will be raising money for the George Floyd protests, victims of police violence, and challenging the way criminal punishment works in the U.S. The YouTube creator will hold a livestream of Terraria with funds being directed towards the charity group The Sentencing Project, George Floyd and other victims of police violence, and “small business affected by looting and riot damage.”

The YouTube stream will see all Superchat donations being directed to charity. “We are supporting by raising money and awareness in honor of George Floyd’s death,” the video’s description reads. “Money raised will be split equally between 3 different causes that relates to the issue.”

PewDiePie has been using his YouTube livestreams to donate to several charities throughout each month, with him stating that his viewers raised $36,000 to Winston’s Wish in May, an organization that supports bereaved children.

PewDiePie has been in and out of headlines over the past few years for controversial reasons, including a 2017 incident in which he livestreamed himself using the n-word in a PUBG match. The YouTuber stopped livestreaming after this, though has since returned to and has focused on using his platform to encourage charitable donations from his live viewers.
