PewDiePie Brings Controversy by Dropping the N-Word During Stream

PewDiePie can’t seem to stay out of the negative limelight lately. The famous YouTuber and gaming personality dropped the N-Word during a stream earlier today.

During a recent PlayerUnknown’s Battleground’s stream, Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg (aka PewDiePie) was in the middle of a firefight when he used the offensive slur. ‘What a fucking n****r… sorry but what the fuck,’ he said as he then paused and apologized after realizing he had said it in front of his entire audience.

Many were quick to condemn PewDiePie for his actions, as the nature of the comment makes it seem like it’s a common word in his vocabulary. But others have gone to his defense, saying that the comment was made in a “heated gaming moment.” This recent incident comes only weeks after PewDiePie distanced himself from Nazism after the white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, saying he would refrain from making anti-semitic jokes.

Sean Vanaman, the co-director of Firewatch and co-founder of Campo Santo tweeted that he would be filing a DMCA takedown against all of PewDiePie’s Firewatch content. PewDiePie’s play through of the narrative adventure has more than 5.7 million views.

We’ll have to wait and see how this most recent blunder effects PewDiePie and his celebrity status, the last incident caused several of his major business ventures to fail including the cancellation of the second season of his Youtube Red show and the loss of his partnership with Disney.
