Civilization 6 Epic Games Store release suggests Borderlands and ARK leak is accurate

This week’s new free Epic Games Store game has been revealed, and it might not be surprising if you’ve been paying attention to the rumor mill. The Civilization 6 Epic Games Store release is a welcome surprise, and it also shows that we might be getting Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and ARK: Survival Evolved in the coming weeks.

Following last week’s launch of GTA 5, it looks like the Epic Games Store is continuing to bring the heavy hitters for its summer releases. This week’s game is Sid Meier’s Civilization 6, the latest iteration of the 4X strategy game that launched back in 2016.

Aside from being a pretty nice premium game being given away for free, the Civilization 6 Epic Games Store release may also confirm that a recent questionable leak is turning out to be true.

A submission on the /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit popped up a week ago suggesting that Civilization 6 would be following the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5. The leak had no corroborating evidence at the time, but today’s launch makes it seem all the more true.

What is the free Epic Games Store games leak?

  • Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 – May 21–28, 2020
  • Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – May 28–June 4, 2020, which includes:
    • Borderlands 2
    • Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
    • A ton of DLC for both games
  • ARK: Survival Evolved – June 4–11, 2020

At the time of its reveal, the leak was considered somewhat questionable since it had no other supporting evidence. The launch of GTA 5 was already known at the time, and the image seen in the leak could have easily been made in Photoshop or Powerpoint without much in the way of technical skills.

That said, the Civilization 6 Epic Games Store release adds a little more credibility to this leak. We may very well be getting Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and ARK: Survival Evolved over the next two weeks.

In any case, we’ve got a cool new game that we can play on the Epic Games Store for free! You can grab the Civilization 6 Epic Games Store release from now until Thursday, May 28, 2020, at 11:00 AM EDT.
