Star Wars Battlefront 2 Last Update

Star Wars Battlefront 2’s last content update releases tomorrow

The last Star Wars Battlefront 2 update is coming tomorrow and marks an end to over two years of added content. The final Battlefront 2 patch will bring the Battle on Scarif map, as seen in Battlefront (2015). This news of the last content update for BF2 comes just a week after DICE announced that Battlefield 5 would also no longer receive any new maps or vehicles, and no new weapons past the upcoming summer update.

In the blog post on the official website, the Battlefront 2 community manager Dennis Brannvall announced the end of content development for the game:

“Looking beyond April, we’re transitioning to a phase where the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events such as Double XP and more, and game support will carry this broad and rich Star Wars gaming experience into the future. This means that we’re moving away from delivering regular content updates. As the game lives on with the players and our community, we’re looking forward to hearing your stories for years to come.”

The Battle on Scarif update marks the 25th major patch since the game launched in November 2017. In contrast to Battlefield 5, BF2 managed to turn around its lousy fortune. After a controversial start, DICE and EA completely changed their approach to Battlefront 2 and won a supportive community.

It can be assumed that DICE is pulling its content production from Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 5 to work on a new project. It can be assumed that the studio’s next game will be either Battlefield 6 or Battlefront 3, but no official announcements have been made. We might be surprised, though. Mirror’s Edge 2 might be in production.

Given EA’s rocky handling of the Star Wars license, it’s disappointing that content updates have been ended for Battlefront 2. Hopefully, the 180 Battlefront 2 pulled, and the success of Jedi Fallen Order is an indicator of future Star Wars games. We don’t specifically know what’s next for the franchise, but we anticipate hearing more about the leaked Project Maverick in the coming months.
