Terraria 1.4 update release date announced, will be the last patch

After months of anticipation, the Terraria 1.4 update release date has finally been announced by the developers. Hold onto your hats: you’ll be able to play the last Terraria patch on PC in only a few weeks.

Terraria has been around for nearly a decade and has had an incredible amount of content added since its original launch on May 16, 2011. The developers have been hard at work creating one final content update to bring the game’s lengthy post-launch development to a close — and it’s arriving on a most auspicious day.

When is the Terraria 1.4 update release date? You’ll be able to play the massive “Journey’s End” patch when it launches on May 16, 2020. That’s nine years to the day from when the game first graced our PCs.

The list of changes coming in Journey’s End are pretty astonishing. Of course, players will be able to craft or earn a boatload of new items. These include  a “new and improved Star Cannon”, a brand-new sword that will serve as the game’s ultimate melee weapon, a new desert-themed pickaxe, and more.

Part of the fun of Terraria lies in decorating your world, and base builders aren’t being left out, either. Several new themes are arriving in this update, including:

  • A spider theme
  • A corruption theme
  • A Vortex theme
  • A Solar theme
  • A bamboo theme
  • A sandstone theme

Even the world itself will be changing. A new lawnmower will let you tidy up the world (and reduce enemy spawn rates, to boot). Also arriving in this update is new wind mechanics. It will have an effect on cosmetic features like rain. plants, and even the player’s wings. (As far as we can tell, it doesn’t look like it will have any gameplay effects on flying.)
