Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Kollection spotted on Steam, 11 more character slots also uncovered

We’re only about a month from Mortal Kombat 11‘s first anniversary and recent findings show that the game is going to celebrate that event with something special. A listing for the Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath Kollection has popped up on Steam, possibly prematurely unveiling an unannounced ultimate edition. This happens to coincide with another datamine that revealed 11 extra character slots. (UPDATE: It has been confirmed)

Reddit user Delorean82 noticed the Steam listing earlier today. This listing was updated on March 26, but was deleted sometime shortly after it went live. You can view the listing below, courtesy of Delorean82’s screen shot, and then see the current link to the Steam database without a mention of the collection. Other users also took screen shots of the Aftermath Kollection, giving credence to its existence.

NetherRealm has not announced this MK11 Aftermath Kollection, but it’s likely that it’s some sort of bundle containing all of the game’s DLC so far. This is a common practice for fighting games, especially for NetherRealm as Mortal Kombat 9, Mortal Kombat X, and both Injustice games all saw ultimate editions around a year after launch. Mortal Kombat 11‘s first Kombat Pack also just wrapped up with the recent release of Spawn, making it a good time to release such a package.

However, this may not be the only MK11 bundle NetherRealm releases. Noted Mortal Kombat dataminer thethiny dug through the game’s files and found 42 total character slots. Spawn was the 31st fighter, meaning that NetherRealm might be planning for 11 more characters to join MK11‘s roster over an undetermined period of time (and most likely not all at once for the rumored collection). As thethiny pointed out, Mortal Kombat X‘s total character slots were also determined at it launch in its code. One of those MK11 slots is probably Evil Dead‘s Ash Williams, the long-rumored fighter that WB basically confirmed in a marketing email sent to users on Tuesday.

NetherRealm has not officially announced more DLC, but, if the character slots in the code are consistent with MKX, it would point to the game having at least a couple more Kombat Packs over its lifetime. Mortal Kombat Co-Creator and NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon has stated that the developer was going to support the game for a lot longer than any of the team’s previous titles. And if this is all true, 11 more characters would definitely fit that bill.
