No more Mortal Kombat 11 DLC support

There will be no more Mortal Kombat 11 DLC, NetherRealm confirms its moving focus to a new project

NetherRealm Studios announced that active support is ending on Mortal Kombat 11. Since its release in April 2019, MK11 has received a considerable amount of DLC and updates and received a next-gen upgrade in November of last year in the form of Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate Edition. However, all good things must come to an end, and NetherRealm will be focusing its attention on its next yet-to-be-announced project.

Will there be more DLC for Mortal Kombat 11

The tweet announcing the end of support for Mortal Kombat 11 states there’ll be no more DLC, including characters, for the game. Fortunately, the roster has expanded to 37 characters since launch, giving players many fighters to choose from.

Mortal Kombat 11 has received numerous updates since its release.

It launched with these 25 characters:

  • Baraka
  • Cassie Cage
  • Cetrion
  • D’Vorah
  • Erron Black
  • Frost
  • Geras
  • Jacqui Briggs
  • Jade
  • Jax Briggs
  • Johnny Cage
  • Kabal
  • Kano
  • Kitana
  • Kollector
  • Kotal Kahn
  • Kung Lao
  • Liu Kang
  • Noob Saibot
  • Raiden
  • Scorpion
  • Shao Kahn
  • Skarlet
  • Sonya Blade
  • Sub-Zero

Six more were released in Kombat Pack 1:

  • The Joker
  • Nightwolf
  • Shang Tsung
  • Sindel
  • Spawn
  • The Terminator

An additional three came with the Aftermath expansion (in addition to a new campaign):

  • Fujin
  • RoboCop
  • Sheeva

Finally, the last three came with Kombat Pack 2:

  • John Rambo
  • Mileena
  • Rain

The big question now is what NetherRealm’s next project will be. Many hypothesize that it’ll be Injustice 3, but others think Mortal Kombat 12 is the next title the studio will release. Unfortunately, the tweet announcing the end of support for MK11 didn’t give any clues as to what we can expect. The studio might even surprise us with a new IP (there aren’t any decent Marvel fighting games around).

Mortal Kombat 11 had a good run, and it’ll be on long-term support for a while. So, it’s still an excellent time to start playing, mainly since the Ultimate Edition includes all the content at an affordable price.
