FF7 Remake ‘comparable in size’ to other Final Fantasy titles

The FF7 Remake game length is going to be “comparable in size” to other mainline Final Fantasy games according to a new interview with the developers. Although the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is not going to cover the whole story of the original, the devs have cooked up a lot of fun surprises for players.

“At the beginning of the project we had two directions we could go,” said Final Fantasy 7 Remake Producer Yoshinori Kitase in an interview on the Square Enix website. “The first was to make the project with the highest possible level of graphics, visual quality and detail, and not remove anything that fans wanted to see. Instead, it would expand upon the original game, to make it something even more immersive.”

That decision led to a much bigger Midgar in many respects (and a healthy FF7 Remake game length). The devs focused on minimizing the “black screen” moments during the Midgar sections and allowing players to experience more of the city. This growth has, in turn, created a much livelier Midgar that feels like a real city.

That’s not all this philosophy has done, mind; the focus on detail means that we’ll probably get a few dozen hours of solid story out of this first episode. The conclusion of the first part won’t just end, either — fans will have some kind of endgame content to play through.

“I will say, Final Fantasy VII Remake has been designed as if it were a standalone game, and comparable in size to other mainline Final Fantasy games,” stated Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi.

“[If] you’re expecting endgame content, you won’t be disappointed.”
