Death Stranding has been out for a while now, and Hideo Kojima is musing about what Kojima Productions will do next. He’s already hinted that he might be working on a horror game, and now he’s said that he’s exploring episodic games and, of all things, a manga.
In an interview with Famitsu, Hideo Kojima and artist Yoji Shinkawa sat down and had a rather lengthy chat in celebration of the 4-year anniversary of Kojima Productions. DualShockers explored some of the more interesting subjects, some of which have been addressed before. What’s much more intriguing are the new revelations like the desire to bring a little variety to the studio’s output in the future.

Firstly, Kojima said that he’d love to work on something with more mecha in it. While Death Stranding had its fair share of machines, Yoji Shinkawa is perhaps best known for his stellar work with doing the art for the Metal Gear Solid franchise and Hideo Kojima would like to see what he could come up with.
That’s not the strangest part, though — Hideo Kojima has already done his fair share of games with mechs in them, and that’s why he might want to do an anime featuring Yoji Shinkawa’s mecha designs instead. The pair also mused over the possibility of creating a manga together as they both have an appreciation for “analog” entertainment.
Kojima Productions is still largely about games, and the two creative talents laid out the future of the company in that sphere. A desire to work on multiple game projects was expressed. One of these unnamed, future titles would be a “big” game like Death Stranding, but the others would be “smaller” games, focusing on episodic content and/or digital-only releases. These aren’t plans for sequential releases, either — Hideo Kojima hopes to be able to work on a big game and one or more smaller games simultaneously.
The interview closes out with Hideo Kojima stating he got a lot of praise for Death Stranding but also a fair share of mixed reviews and that he has plenty of room to improve. We can’t say what those improvements will look like — or what medium it will be in — but it’s sure to be interesting no matter what it is.
