Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s second episode is in development, Square confirms

Speaking in an interview published on Square Enix’s official website, several members of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake team spoke up about some changes to this new iteration. Game director Tetsuya Nomura also confirmed that development on the second episode of the Remake is already underway, which should reassure some fans worried about how long it will take to enjoy the full scope of Cloud’s adventure. “We’ve already begun working on the next one as well, but I’m confident that playing through this title will expand your expectations just like the world that extends beyond Midgar.”

Continuing his statements, Nomura confirmed that, despite past statements, FF7 Remake will feature new bosses and characters. “When you think of Midgar’s final boss, you probably think of the M.O.T.O.R., but in this game, new bosses will appear and add to the excitement of the story even more.” Even without the new additions, Nomura promises a vast experience in the first episode. “Even in this Midgar portion alone, the density and volume are so great that I had to give directions to lighten them.”

Another worry from some about the remake involves changing the art style. Story and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima states that the more realistic renderings will leave “much less room for player imagination.” While he’s somewhat fearful of that possibility, he ultimately doesn’t see it as a bad thing. ” It should be possible to feel a much deeper connection to Cloud as you join alongside him. It would be amazing if you could feel that fiery flame together with him.”

Co-director Naoki Hamaguchi was just a student when the original Final Fantasy VII released, and he found the game engaging and inspirational. Now that he works at Square, he wants to ensure that there is “respect for the original” in the new game. “For those who’ve played it: “new but familiar.” For those who haven’t played it: “experience the charm of FINAL FANTASY VII, which moved the hearts of many, now created with the most exciting modern technology available.”
