We’re just days away from the release of Death Stranding, but Hideo Kojima’s next game is already being planned. The man himself sat down for an interview to talk about Death Stranding, and one of the more surprising facts revealed was that Kojima-san is already in the planning stages for his company’s second title.
Dutch gaming website Gamer.nl interviewed the man behind Death Stranding. A user on ResetEra translated some of the more interesting bits of the interview, one of which is a hint towards Hideo Kojima’s next game. The news came in response to the interview’s final question which asked him about his future projects and whether or not he feels like he achieved his ambitions with Death Stranding.

“I’ve been walking around thinking about a future project for a while now,” Hideo Kojima said according to the translation posted on ResetEra. “But that doesn’t mean that these aren’t stressful times. Even though I embrace that stress, it’s sometimes quite painful, like the contractions when giving birth.”
Although it is surely a tense time at Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima expressed a general sense of relief now that the production of Death Stranding is approaching its crescendo.
“But the past four years were probably worse, as now I know it’ll be over soon. At the same time[,] I’m watching it all from a distance and enjoying myself (laughs).”
With only a few days to go until Death Stranding is live, Hideo Kojima is rapidly approaching that sweet spot where developers get to take a break between games. Even so, it seems like Kojima-san has no intention of slowing down, quashing any of the rumors that Death Stranding might be the last video game he ever makes.
We don’t yet know what Hideo Kojima’s next game will be. If it’s half as strange as Death Stranding is turning out to be, it’s sure to be an experience well worth playing.
