Naughty Dog has revealed that it has a The Last of Us 2 stream planned for the PlayStation State of Play event. The news was conveyed via a subtle tweet, confirming the rumors that hinted at a major presentation by the end of September.
The tweet once again picks up on the now-classic line uttered by Ellie in the first The Last of Us 2 trailer: “I’m gonna find… and I’m gonna kill… every last one of them.” These words stuck with many fans, intrigued by Ellie’s motives and newfound anger, while Joel’s role in the new installment remains a mystery that Naughty Dog is keeping close to its chest.

The Last of Us 2 stream will take place on September 24, 2019 at 1PM PT. It is bound to be the high point of the PlayStation State of Play event, with players finally getting to see new footage, and a release date reveal is highly likely too, probably confirming the February 2020 launch rumors.
Naughty Dog chose to illustrate the tweet with an image of a switchblade, Ellie’s signature weapon in The Last of Us. The small but deadly pocket knife will probably play a more prominent role in the sequel, as Ellie is now the protagonist. The upcoming game will focus around the topic of hate, whereas the first game centers around love, according to director Neil Druckmann. He also shared the The Last of Us 2 stream news on his Twitter account, saying “We’ve been silent for too long. It’s time to put an end to that.”
Naughty Dog didn’t show any new The Last of Us 2 gameplay since the brutal E3 2018 trailer, making expectations for the upcoming stream skyrocket, as the thousands of tweet likes and shares clearly show.
This announcement isn’t entirely surprising, as some past details have pointed toward a new reveal. Late last August, a new The Last of Us 2 trailer was shown during the GameStop Manager’s Conference, with an industry insider known as BenjiSales predicting that the public should get an announcement within a month. As it turns out, he failed his forecast by a mere three days, but it remains impressive nonetheless.
