elden ring release date rumor

Elden Ring release date possibly revealed by retailer

The Elden Ring release date may have been revealed by an online retailer. The next FromSoftware game is a highly anticipated and very mysterious “natural evolution of Dark Souls,” according to the studio’s president Hidetaka Miyazaki. An ominous but cryptic cinematic trailer has been the only bit of information we have on the game so far. With very few details andzero in-game screenshots or gameplay, it might be safe to assume that the Elden Ring release date is a long way off. However, a recent listing on Target reveals that you probably won’t have to wait many years to get your hands on this game.

According to Target (via ComicBook), Elden Ring’s release date is June 30, 2020 with a mention that the game will be “delivered on or shortly after” this day. This could be a placeholder date as many of them are, but it could also be an indicator of a general time frame the game’s targeted date. June 30, 2020 is a Tuesday, which is when most games come out, but it is also the midpoint of the year, which means it could be targeting the first half of the year.

June isn’t known as the greatest month for new releases, but it’s not uncommon to see a potential hit launching during this period. Bandai Namco could intentionally be shooting for a quieter period to attract more attention to FromSoftware’s game, while avoiding the heated competition that usually lasts from September to December. We’ll have to wait for official confirmation from Bandai Namco that this listing is indeed accurate, so until then you should take it with a huge grain of salt. For context, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro all came out in the first halves of their respective years too.

Elden Ring is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in a collaboration between FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin, famed writer known for his fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The series was adapted by HBO into the popular television show Game of Thrones.
