Today, Nightdive Studios announced the Turok 2 Switch release date, stating that the game is coming to the Nintendo console on August 9. This re-release of Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, the 1998 Nintendo 64 sequel to 1997’s Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, was previously announced alongside a re-release of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. Turok came to the Switch eShop on March 18 this year, but fans of the sequel have been waiting for a Turok 2 Switch release date since its announcement.
Nightdive Studios announced the Turok 2 Switch release date on Twitter with a link to the game’s U.K. eShop page. While Turok has an active eShop page in the U.S., Turok 2 does not, so it’s not clear if the sequel will be releasing in the States as well as the U.K. According to the U.K. eShop page, the Turok 2 Switch port has “remastered locations,” and it appears to have an upgraded resolution. Turok 2‘s plot is as ridiculous as you might expect from a game about shooting dinosaurs with guns, involving ancient weapons and a creature called the Primagen.

The Turok franchise has seen a bit of a revival as of late. Along with the Switch eShop re-releases, Limited Run Games announced physical releases of Turok and Turok 2 for Switch back in June, scheduled to come out later this year. More significantly, a new Turok game—though one that’s decidedly different from previous entries in the franchise—was announced earlier this month.

Turok Escape from Lost Valley appeared on Steam on July 5 and released on July 25. The game does away with the franchise’s usual gritty, first-person shooter format, instead adopting a cutesy, hand-drawn, colorful art style and putting a third-person twist on the franchise’s dinosaur-slaying action. The game, developed by Pillow Pig Games, began as a project created during the Universal GameDev Challenge at GDC 2018.
