The Outer Worlds Switch release date window revealed

Obsidian has announced that its upcoming space exploration RPG The Outer Worlds is coming to Nintendo Switch. While the studio did not reveal The Outer Worlds Switch release date, it did confirm that the port would arrive after the launch of the game’s other versions.

In a brief new video, the game’s senior producer Matthew Singh confirmed that Obsidian is working with Virtuous on the Switch version of The Outer Worlds. The latter developer previously helped out on the Switch version of games such as Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age and Dark Souls Remastered.

“I’ve been a lifetime Nintendo fan ever since I was three, I’ve had the NES all the way through every single console and every single handheld,” Singh said. “I’m super excited to be able to take the type of experience we have and to be able to finally play it on a handheld platform. Today we can play a full experience, on-the-go, anywhere you want. Hopefully we can find an audience for people who may have never had this type of experience before.”

As for the rest of the video, Singh gave some details on the game’s setting, talking a bit about how the group of colonists the player character belongs to ended up where they were.

More importantly, he discussed how the game’s open-ended choices will affect the player’s experience. Certain events—Singh specifically gave the example of the player character getting a concussion—affect how characters around them will react to them and can eventually change the choices available to them. As for whether or not The Outer Worlds can live up to these promises, fans will find out when the game launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25. With the Switch version arriving later, players on the system can use that to judge whether they want to pick the game up.

In the meantime, Switch players looking for more RPGs by Obsidian have a few options to choose from. The studio recently announced that the Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition will be coming to Nintendo’s portable hybrid system next month. Its upcoming sequel, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, will also come to the Switch when it hits consoles sometime later this year.
