Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 free characters confirmed for next month

In its panel at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Games revealed some new playable characters for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Specifically, it revealed the final playable character as well as the first two free DLC characters for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

Marvel Games announced that none other than the god of mischief himself Loki would be playable in the base game. In addition to this, the crew also announced that X-Men Cyclops and Colossus would be joining the alliance as free DLC characters on August 30.

Cyclops and Colossus’ addition as free DLC may be surprising for some. After all, one of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3‘s DLC packs focuses on the X-Men. However, Marvel Games and Nintendo may be doing this to whet players appetites for the uncanny mutant hero team.

Of course, getting the DLC packs represents a bit of an investment for players. Nintendo confirmed that they will not be sold individually—players will need to buy the season pass to get them.

In addition to the free characters, Marvel Games also gave out a first look at some of the first paid DLC characters. Blade, Moon Knight, Morbius, and the Punisher are coming to the game as part of the Marvel Knights DLC pack.  A tweet from Nintendo specified that these are just “a few characters from the first DLC pack.” This seems to indicate that there are more characters to be included with it.

One thing that Marvel Games did not announce was when exactly the first DLC pack would be arriving. Its launch date is still the nebulous fall 2019 release window announced at E3 2019. That said, while that does seem to be quite far away, this recent announcement of free DLC characters may suggest that more content is coming to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 before then.
