2K Sports has revealed the NBA 2K20 release date and cover athlete for its upcoming basketball game. Well, cover athletes. The game will come out on September 6 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch (and Stadia at a later date) and will have new the newly minted Los Angeles Laker Anthony Davis and former Miami Heat MVP Dwayne Wade as its cover stars.
Davis returns to the cover of an NBA 2K game for the first time since NBA 2K16. He will specifically appear in the game’s standard and deluxe editions. For those expecting him to don the colors of the LA Lakers where he’s been traded to, it seems that the current cover has yet to reflect this. He’s still wearing a New Orleans Pelicans jersey. That said, 2K Games could possibly update this before the game comes out.
Three-time NBA champion Dwayne Wade on the other hand appears on the cover of the NBA 2K20 Legend Edition. Wade talked about this cover in a press release to the Miami Herald.
“I’ve been blessed to spend 16 years of my life playing the game I love at the highest-level, and to culminate my career by joining NBA greats as an NBA 2K Legend Edition cover star makes me incredibly proud,” he said.
As with previous releases, pre-ordering any of the game’s editions before launch gives players access to an assortment of bonuses. These include in-game apparel, as well as extra in-game currency, and skill boosts. Interested players can learn more about these currencies in our guide.
While NBA 2K20 arrives on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch in September, the game will also be gracing Google Stadia when it arrives in November. NBA 2K20 is set to be one of the launch games for Google’s new game streaming platform. The game looks to be one of the first traditional sports games to be released on the streaming service alongside Sega’s Football Manager.
