It looks like Professor Layton fans won’t have to wait until Anime Expo 2019 to learn more about the latest game. Level-5 has released a trailer confirming a Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box HD worldwide release.
Prior to the announcement, Level-5 had put out a teaser that hinted that the high-definition remaster of the second Professor Layton game was coming to the West. This was on top of a hint that it would be showing something related to the series at Anime Expo 2019.
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box originally released on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2007. Last year, however, Level-5 released a high-definition remaster of the game for iOS and Android in Japan called Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box EXHD. This represented the second remaster of a Layton game following 2018’s Professor Layton and the Curious Village EXHD.
Level-5 eventually released the latter as Professor Layton and the Curious Village HD in the West. With this in mind, fans speculated that Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box EXHD would eventually find its way to the West as well.
As with the Nintendo 3DS original, Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box HD has the professor and his sidekick Luke searching for the stolen Elysian Box. The box was originally acquired by the professor’s mentor. However, they died soon after they acquired box, and it has since gone missing. The professor and Luke’s investigation leads them to the Molentary Express train. As part of this mystery, players will have to solve over 150 puzzles before they can get close to the truth of the box and the train.
Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box HD is now available worldwide on the Google Play Store as well as Apple’s iTunes storefront for just $9.99. Of course, with the game now out, one wonders if Level-5 doesn’t have any more Layton-related news to share at Anime Expo 2019.
