Professor Layton announcement teased by Level-5 at Anime Expo 2019

Professor Layton announcement teased by Level-5 for Anime Expo 2019

It seems that Level-5 has something Professor Layton related up their sleeves. A Professor Layton announcement teased by the series’ official Twitter account may mean that fans are getting something at Anime Expo 2019.

The tweet from the series’ Twitter account states that “Sometimes the closer you are to the truth, the harder it is to see” while showing an image of a Molentary Railway Express ticket. Fans should recognize this as the train that appears in Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

The second game in the series, Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, originally released on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2007. However, an updated version called Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box EXHD was recently released in Japan for Android and iOS devices.

Now the previous HD update to a Layton game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village EXHD eventually released in the West simply as Professor Layton and the Curious Village HD. With this in mind, it seems that Level-5 may be teasing an announcement of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box HD for the West at Anime Expo.

Level-5 recently confirmed that it would be attending Anime Expo for the first time ever. The tweet came with silhouettes, including one of Professor Layton himself, that teased possible announcements at the convention. This more recent tease narrows down the identity of one possible announcement.

The question now remains on whether or not Level-5 will be announcing more than one Layton-related project at Anime Expo 2019. The last new game in the series was 2017’s Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy and this game remains the series’ only Nintendo Switch outing so far. Since then, Level-5 has focused more on bringing updated ports of the game to mobile devices. Fans will have to wait until Anime Expo 2019 rolls around from July 4 to July 7 to find out if Level-5 actually announces another entry in the long-running series.
