Trials of Mana won't have multiplayer unlike the original

Trials of Mana won’t have multiplayer according to Square Enix

Veteran gamers may recall being able to play the classic Secret of Mana cooperatively with their friends. However, it seems that this wont be the case for the remake of its sequel. In a recent interview, Square Enix confirmed that Trials of Mana won’t have multiplayer.

Square Enix announced Trials of Mana, a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3—the Japan-only sequel to Secret of Mana—at E3 2019. The remake arrives on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC in early 2020.

In a recent developer interview with Famitsu at E3Square Enix confirmed that Trials of Mana won’t have multiplayer. This despite the original Seiken Densetsu 3 having cooperative multiplayer, just like Secret of Mana before it.

Alongside the announcement that the game wont have multiplayer, the company also revealed more about why the remake is happening. It wants to introduce the remake as a completely new title, since the original Seiken Densetsu 3 had never previously released outside Japan.

As part of this, the company revealed that Trials of Mana is the most action-heavy game in the franchise. The remake introduces elements such as jump attacks and combos that the series had never seen before. Additionally, the development team also removed the weapon charging system from previous titles. The latter actually received negative feedback from players when it was combined with the fixed weapons added to Seiken Densetsu 3.

Despite Trials of Mana being the most action-heavy game in the franchise, Square Enix maintains that it’s an RPG through and through. This means players not used to action games will still be able to enjoy it.

In addition to this, Square Enix confirmed that all the event scenes were fully voiced. It didn’t announce who the voice actors are, though they assured fans that they wouldn’t ruin their images of these characters.

Finally, Square Enix concluded by stating that it still had a lot that it couldn’t reveal about Trials of Mana just yet. Fans should look forward to more details about the game in the future.
