Blood and Truth sales have come out of the gate running. This VR shooter from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s London Studio has captured the attention of the UK gaming public, allowing it to take the #1 spot for the physical sales charts reported by UKIE. This isn’t just pretty great news for a game release, as it’s the first time that a virtual reality game has charted at the No. 1 spot in the United Kingdom.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that Blood and Truth sales have allowed it to take the number one spot, beating out the competition by just 400 copies sold. FIFA 19 has managed to climb back up to the number two position, while last week’s chart-topper Team Sonic Racing has fallen to number 3.
Here are the top ten rankings for this week:
- Blood & Truth
- FIFA 19
- Team Sonic Racing
- Days Gone
- Red Dead Redemption II
- Cricket 19: Official Game of the Ashes
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Forza Horizon 4
- Mortal Kombat 11
Although Team Sonic Racing has fallen two places, it’s still having a strong showing in sales. While that’s certainly good news for SEGA, it’s been an otherwise muted week when you look at the board as a whole — a shade over 6,000 copies separated the No. 1 and No. 40 positions in the charts this week.
As for Blood & Truth sales, one can see exactly why the game has so much appeal. Essentially, it puts you in the position of an action movie hero utilizing the power of virtual reality. If you’ve ever watched Die Hard or John Wick and thought, “I can do that,” then this is probably the perfect game to help you live out your fantasies. This is the first time that a VR game has held the No. 1 spot and the first time that a VR game has debuted at the No. 1 spot on UKIE’s charts.
Blood & Truth sales have been quite healthy, but it remains to be seen whether or not they’ll keep pace in subsequent weeks. While it’s certainly done well, virtual reality is still a pretty new technology and there simply may not be enough of an established playerbase for it to hold a respectable position on the top ten beyond its launch week.
