Planet Coaster Ghostbusters DLC will bring back Dan Aykroyd

Planet Coaster, the long-running theme park management sim from Elite Dangerous and Jurassic World Evolution developers Frontier, will soon get a new DLC expansion based on 1984’s classic Ghostbusters. The new Planet Coaster Ghostbusters DLC does not yet have a release date other than “coming soon,” but it will come to PC only via Steam, as the game is not currently on any other platforms. It seems to be a fairly significant add-on for Planet Coaster, and not only does it add a new campaign and features, it also brings back veteran actor Dan Aykroyd as Ray for the first time in ten years.

Dan Aykroyd appeared as Dr Raymond Stantz, “the heart of the Ghostbusters,” in the original Ghostbusters movie in 1984. He would reprise the role in 1989’s Ghostbusters II, an uncredited cameo in 1995’s Casper, and then would return with the whole cast for 2009’s Ghostbusters: The Videogame, which is currently rumored to be coming back as a remaster. The Planet Coaster Ghostbusters DLC will be his first time playing the role of Ray since that game (he appeared in 2016’s Ghostbusters movie reboot, but not as Ray Stantz). According to the press release, he will be “mentoring players throughout their campaign as they build their park and take care of the ghostly issues that besiege their rides.” William Atherton will also return for the DLC as Walter Peck, who will presumably be there to get in the way.

Described as the “most ambitious content pack for Planet Coaster to date”, the new expansion will add a new narrative campaign, an interactive ride called The Ghostbusters Experience, a Slimer-themed kid’s ride called the RollerGhoster, and numerous parts of the classic movie such as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, Slimer, ECTO-1, and the Ghostbusters themselves. The trailer even suggests that players’ parks may get haunted outside of rides, which will be interesting to see. It will be out on PC “soon.”
