Ghostbusters the Video Game remake rated in Xbox One

Ghostbusters: The Video Game remaster for Xbox One rated in Taiwan

Taiwan’s ratings board has rated a Ghostbusters: The Video Game remaster. The rating only lists the remaster as coming to the Xbox One.

Released in 2009, Ghostbusters: The Video Game launched on a variety of platforms. In addition to the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360 versions, the game also released on PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii, and Nintendo DS. However, the new rating lists the remake as only for the Xbox One.

The listing by the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee also lists the game as being developed by Mad Dog Games. The studio previously worked on the NBA Playgrounds series before 2K Games purchased the rights to them. On the other hand, Terminal Reality, Red Fly Studios, and Zen Studios developed the original versions.

The original Ghostbusters: The Video Game combined typical third-person shooter mechanics with the series’ trademark “Proton Packs.” For this, and in its original version of the game, Terminal Reality used its Infernal Engine to make the streams bend in real time, as they do in the movies. Dubbed the “Realistic Version,” this was the style found in versions of the game that released for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The other console versions offered what was called the “Stylized Version.” While no details have been given yet, Mad Dog’s release will likely be based around the original “Realistic Version.”

Set after the events of Ghostbusters 2, Ghostbusters: The Video Game‘s story focuses on a new recruit added to the original team. This may give a clue to why the game is being remade. Jason Reitman, the son of original director Ivan Reitman, is currently working on a film sequel to Ghostbusters 2. As such, a remaster of a game also set as a sequel to that film seems to make sense.

However, Columbia Pictures, a Sony company, controls the Ghostbusters film IP. With this in mind, it seems highly unlikely that any Ghostbusters-related video game will be an exclusive to the rival Xbox One.

Whatever this is, more information about Ghostbusters: The Video Game will likely be forthcoming. The listing shows that a PlayGhostbusters.com website has already been registered, though it currently doesn’t work at this time. This site will likely go live once the game is announced.
