As impressive as this nine minute demo of Shadow of the Eternals looks, I've got far too many questions that need answering before I can hand any money over to Precursor Games or their crowd-funding campaign. It all seems a bit fishy, even though it's possible Silicon Knights has been working on this title for quite some time.
If you haven't been paying attention, Shadow of the Eternals is the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness, one of if not the best horror game you'll ever play. Silicon Knights has shut down and even sold office equipment to pay off their debt, but this new studio is primed and ready to launch a new game in the same style!
Not so fast. Many of the Silicon Knights team-members are now a part of Precursor Games (including even SK boss Denis Dyack) and this 9 minute demo seems a bit eager to pan slowly around the room to catch facial expressions. It could be a deeply developed tech demo, or it could be a chunk of SotE that's been polished over the years. Who the hell knows what's going on with this game?
As of writing, 2273 suckers have put money down towards Precursor's goal of $1.5 million. With 27 days left to finish funding, what happens if the former-Silicon Knights crew don't reach their goal? Will the money be given back to supporters or will it go to paying off more SK debt? Seriously, watch your wallets with this one, folks.
