A Fortnite Epic Games Store Mega Sale has been leaked. Like many games out on the market, Fortnite has an in-game news feed. Unfortunately for the developers, this news feed leaked information about an upcoming sale — and Epic Games has a very interesting bonus for users who activate two-factor authentication (2FA).
@FiremonkeyFN on Twitter uploaded an image showing the news page with the erroneously-placed message about the Fortnite Epic Games Store Mega Sale. “The Epic Games store Megasale is happening right now!” the post says. “Sign up for 2FA in order to get $10 to spend in the store.” News of the leak was quickly noticed by the Fortnite developers and they responded with some more details.
“Whoops! An MOTD snuck out about a sale,” the developers said in a tweet. “There is an Epic Games store sale on games in the works, but it hasn’t launched yet. Stay tuned to @EpicGames for details in a few days.”
The interesting bit about the Fortnite Epic Games Store Mega Sale is that it’s offering a $10 credit for people who sign up for 2FA (two-factor authentication). 2FA is a security measure that requires an additional input for you to log into your account, often from an external website, phone app, or physical device. Developers encourage users to make use of 2FA where available as it makes it much more difficult for accounts to be stolen by nefarious individuals.
There are, however, several unclear points about the sale. Will customers of the Fortnite Epic Games Store Mega Sale get $10 to spend if they have 2FA with no strings attached or will they have to make some other kind of purchase? We can’t say for sure, but Epic Games says that we’ll be hearing more about the sale soon. In the meantime, you can see the original image that erroneously announced the sale below.
