Ghost Recon Breakpoint Epic Games Store exclusive confirmed

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Epic Games Store exclusivity confirmed

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Epic Games Store exclusivity has just been announced by Ubisoft. The company recently confirmed that that digital distribution network Steam will not be getting the series’ latest tactical shooter release.

Ubisoft making Ghost Recon Breakpoint an Epic Games Store exclusive shouldn’t be a surprise. The company has already moved two of its previous games, Anno 1800 and The Division 2, to Epic’s new storefront.

Initially, Ubisoft did list both games on Steam before moving them to Epic’s service. This time, however, the company won’t be doing the same for Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Technically, the games aren’t true Epic Games Store “exclusives.” Players can still purchase them directly though Ubisoft’s own Uplay. These games, including Breakpoint, will still actually require Uplay to launch alongside the Epic Games Store. As such, players who don’t want the extra step have the option to buy it directly through Uplay.

Even though it’s not a true exclusive, Ghost Recon Breakpoint being on the Epic Games Store and not on Steam is a win for Epic. The move keeps one more big game out of Valve’s service while adding to even more value to Epic’s offering.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney stated earlier this year that Epic will continue to go for exclusives. “We’ve had a lot of discussions about this since GDC,” Sweeney stated. “Epic is open to continuing to sign funding [and] exclusivity deals with willing developers and publishers regardless of their previous plans or announcements around Steam.”

Aside from Ubisoft’s games, Epic has already signed a number of exclusives this year. Earlier this year, the crew managed to get Metro Exodus to sign on as an exclusive, a decision that angered a number of fans who had already pre-ordered the game on Steam. More recently, Gearbox Software confirmed that its long-awaited sequel Borderlands 3 will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

With the addition of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, it seems that Epic’s drive to get more exclusives isn’t stopping any time soon.
