Christopher Lambert appears in French Mortal Kombat 11 ad

With Mortal Kombat 11 set to rip us apart in just a few days’ time, promotion for the sequel is running wild. But it’s what’s happening overseas that’s really interesting, mainly because of the re-emergence of a particular Raiden.

In the trailer, which you can see below, we see none other than Christopher Lambert pop up. If you may recall, he played the lightning god in the Mortal Kombat film from the 90s. He guided the humans to victory over the evil Shang Tsung, while cracking a joke or two. “Sorry.”

Despite going through quite a bit over the last couple of decades (some fans didn’t even recognize him), he’s still got that fun loving nature in the trailer.

A player challenges the then-off-screen Lambert to a fight between Scorpion and Raiden. The two go at it, but Raiden eventually proves victorious. In fact, he even rips his foes to pieces using powerful electricity.

When the fellow player asks him about how he’s so good with the character, Lambert explains, loosely translated, “We got history, him and I.” He then proceeds to do his little “ah ah ah” laugh. And to bring it on home, he turns back to the player and says, “Sorry.”

It’s short, and sweet, but definitely something nostalgic fans are sure to enjoy. And it goes hand in hand with the recent launch trailer for Mortal Kombat 11. It features the theme from the original movie, with a slight bit of remix. And let’s not forget that the original Shang Tsung, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, portrays an older version of the character in the game, as forthcoming DLC. (Now, can we get goofy looking animatronic Goro for good measure?)

Mortal Kombat 11 hits stores and digital fronts on April 23 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
