Considering that the game will drop sometime this year, we figured it wouldn’t be long before Gears 5 would get its chance to shine in the esports spotlight. But we didn’t think it would be happening so soon.
During today’s Inside Xbox stream, Microsoft confirmed that it will host the ELeague Gears Summer Series: The Bonds and Betrayals of Brotherhood on TBS. The live competition will start on June 14 at 11:00 PM EDT.
During this time, fans and hardcore players alike will get a look at Gears 5 competitive multiplayer in action. Eight teams from across the world will be able to take part in battles, straight from Turner Studios in Atlanta.
Those that persevere and win their events will be able to move on to The Invitational, which will take place at the end of the season.
Coinciding with the tournament, there will also be a documentary that spreads across six episodes. It’ll take a close look at the players partaking in the tournament series, which shows you the human side.
The series will also take a close look at how the transition from Gears of War 4 to the forthcoming Gears 5. According to the press release, players will be able to see the “untapped potential of new opportunities with the fallout from past decisions.” That’ll certainly play out well in the live match-ups, which is what fans want to see.
The series’ first episode will premiere on June 14 as well, so players can check it out. Also, if you want to see match-ups outside of TBS, you can tune in to Twitch and on the B/R Live premium sports streaming service on July 13 and 14.
As for Gears 5, it currently doesn’t have a release date. But Microsoft has already promised big things for E3 2019, and we’ll probably learn more about when it’s coming at that point. It’ll be available for Xbox One and Windows 10 upon release.
