Fire Pro Wrestling’s NJPW Junior Heavyweight Story DLC Arrives on PS4

One month after its release on PC, Fire Pro Wrestling World’s New Japan Pro-Wrestling Junior Heavyweight Fighting Road story DLC is now available on PlayStation 4. Available on its own for $14.99, or as part of the $49.99 Fire Pro Wrestling World NJPW Season Pass (alongside the business-focused Fire Promoter mode and a currently unreleased “additional scenario” directed by Fire Pro Wrestling alumnus Suda51) this piece of Fire Pro Wrestling World DLC allows players to create a wrestler that will compete in the NJPW Junior Heavyweight division.

Depending on the player’s actions “in and outside of the ring,” their created wrestler could join popular NJPW stables like Los Ingobernables de Japon or Suzuki-Gun, or strike out on their own. The game also touts the addition of Junior Heavyweight legend Jyushin “Thunder” Liger, who can train with the player in the Fighting Road story, as well as make appearances in the game’s other modes.

Liger, who is set to retire from professional wrestling early next year after New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s iconic Wrestle Kingdom Tokyo Dome supershow, isn’t the only New Japan wrestler being added to the game in an official capacity. Newer Junior Heavyweight stars like Taiji Ishimori and Will Ospreay, Ring of Honor star Marty Scurll, and Beretta, one-half of the Chaos tag team Best Friends, will also be making their first Fire Pro Wrestling appearances, amongst others. Sadly, Beretta’s partner Chuck Taylor is nowhere to be found.

The Fighting Road scenario that shipped with the game early last year followed a similar player-created character as they climbed the ranks of New Japan’s main event scene, eventually vying for the prestigious IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Although Fire Pro Wrestling World launched with many top New Japan stars, such as Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kenny Omega, and Toru Yano, the gaps in the game’s official roster could be filled by downloading eerily accurate player-created wrestlers. However, the Junior Heavyweight Fighting Road DLC also adds official entrance music for new performers like Roppongi 3K and Jado, alongside the aforementioned Ospreay.

The DLC launches alongside a patch for the Fire Promoter mode and the game’s competitive multiplayer component – adding some additional depth to the Promoter mechanics and connection stability, respectively. The Vanishing, a story DLC directed by No More Heroes and Let It Die creator Suda51 announced earlier this year, is the last piece of DLC set to be released for the Fire Pro Wrestling World season pass.
