New Samurai Shodown trailer highlights Nakoruru

In March the world learned that the classic fighting game Samurai Shodown is getting a reboot later this year. Developed by SNK Corporation, the franchise is known for its eccentric take on Japanese history and was once a big hit in arcades everywhere. Now, a new Samurai Shodown trailer highlights Nakoruru, one of the familiar series faces.

The trailer is only 40 seconds long but provides a ton of brutal footage showing off Nakoruru’s colorful moveset. Her fighting style involves a kodachi, a small but quick Japanese sword. And thanks to her hawk, throws in some flying moves as well. Also, according to the SNK Fandom, Nakoruru is a tad weaker than the other characters but is faster than most to make up for it.

As a person, Nakoruru is shy but sweet. She doesn’t want to be violent, but the in-game events force her to be. The character is dedicated, but sometimes Nakoruru wishes to be a normal girl with traditional hopes and dreams. Regardless, she does what she can to protect the weak and the innocent.

The Samurai Shodown reboot releases on June 27 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, the Nintendo Switch, and for arcades. This reboot is in Unreal Engine and will take place before the original game and Samurai Shodown 5. It will launch with 16 characters, though four more will come with the game’s season pass. While 13 series classics will be back, three new characters, Darli Dagger, Wu-Ruixiang, and Yashamaru Kurama, appear here.

This season pass will be a standalone buy or through the Digital Deluxe pack. This upgrade will also include a low polygon skin for Haomaru that looks like Samurai Shodown 64. There’s also a limited edition worth ¥30,000 that’s only for sale on the SNK Online Shop. Finally, Samurai Shodown will be in the SNK World Championship. There, the best competitors can win a sponsorship from SNK themselves.
