New Borderlands 2 Rainbow rarity found in game files following recent update

A new Borderlands 2 Rainbow rarity skin has reportedly been found in game files for the recent 4K update to the title. The Rainbow rarity was found by data miners and currently remains dormant in the game files with no news on when it will be implemented. The skin is particularly interesting for its everchanging colors.

In images posted to Twitter by user Koby (@CaptainKoby_), we see the new Rainbow rarity skin in action. Instead of remaining one static color throughout, the Rainbow rarity sees the gun skin continuously change via an animated rotation of different colors. Koby created the “Reborn” mod pack for Borderlands 2 and made the discovery when looking through the files for the new 4K update. They stated that the Rainbow rarity currently only seems present in Borderlands 2 and not Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Koby also speculates the skin may never see the light of day with the possibility that its inclusion may be an accident.

Borderlands 2 has most recently been in the news for the review bombing occurring on the game’s Steam page. The move is said to be a response by players who are unhappy with Borderlands 3’s Epic Games Store exclusivity deal. The CEO also went on to rally against non-curated stores which put a focus on user reviews. We looked into the causes and implications of the Borderlands 3 Epic Games Store controversy.
