Zelda Breath of the Wild VR

Switch Labo VR to support Zelda: Breath of the Wild VR and Mario Odyssey VR

Nintendo has revealed Zelda: Breath of the Wild VR and Mario Odyssey VR experiences are coming to the Switch console. The virtual reality experience in both games will differ, with each acclaimed title offering a different way of incorporating VR. Both games are playable in VR using the Switch Labo VR hardware.

The free VR updates for these games were announced on Twitter. The Mario Odyssey VR experience will include three mini-missions especially adapted for virtual reality. Nintendo states the experience will be a “bite-size bonus experience in simple, family-friendly VR.” The Zelda: Breath of the Wild VR update will be far larger in scope. Zelda VR will allow players to toggle virtual reality on and off at any time in the settings. This allows players to experience the entirety of Breath of the Wild in VR without having to create a new game or return to the main menu to change perspectives. The free update will be available to download from April 25.

Both Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild are critically acclaimed upon release. Odyssey recently became the best-selling 3D Mario game of the 21st century. While Zelda continues to look to build on Breath of the Wild’s successes. Alongside this new VR experience, a Cadence of Hyrule game was recently revealed. The rhythm adventure game puts a Zelda twist on a game like Crypt of the NecroDancer.

Zelda is also looking to go down the remake route. In February it was announced a Link’s Awakening remake was on its way. However, we looked into why the game maybe isn’t the Zelda remake that Nintendo should have begun with. That isn’t to say Link’s Awakening doesn’t have its fans, a Zelda title which departs from the familiar narrative structure of the previous game.

Zelda was most recently in the news for having the pleasure of being included in a Soulja Boy song. The song followed Soulja Boy having to cancel his planned console after apparent legal threats from Nintendo.
