Borderlands 3 release date revealed by Gearbox

Following speculation fuelled by a series of deleted tweets, the Borderlands 3 release date has been confirmed by Gearbox. The official announcement comes just days after the Borderlands 3 Twitter account seemed to reveal the game’s release date as well as Epic Games Store exclusivity. The game itself was announced last week with a revealing trailer.

The Borderlands 3 release date will be September 13, 2019, as rumors and leaks pointed to.

Gearbox’s announcement confirms the earlier deleted tweets did reveal the game’s actual release date. The announcement comes on another day of leaks for the upcoming sequel. Borderlands 3 collector’s edition and box art were leaked via Twitter. The deleted tweet suggesting Epic Games Store exclusivity led Gearbox CEO to defend the move on Twitter. Pitchford sought to clarify the game’s publisher 2K/Take Two is responsible for exclusivity decisions.

Speculation, leaks, and deleted tweets have taken center stage in the run-up to the Borderlands 3 release date announcement. A Borderlands 3 teaser trailer led fans down a rabbit hole of secret messages. Along with discovered a shift code that was redeemable in Borderlands 2, fans around braille and morse code within the video. The leaks and trailers have also revealed a whole set of characters which will be returning for Borderlands 3. Three of the four main playable characters from the original Borderlands (Mordecai, Lilith, and Brick) all appeared in the Borderlands 3 reveal trailer. Another surprise inclusion appears to be the addition of two characters from Telltale’s Tales From the Borderlands.

Aside from accidental reveals, Gearbox did manage to intentionally announce a Borderlands Game of the Year Edition for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The remaster is out today.
