Borderlands 3 trailer

Borderlands 3 revealed along with first trailer

Gearbox Software and 2K Games have finally officially announced Borderlands 3, the first game in the series since Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and Tales from the Borderlands in 2014. It’s also the first internally developed game from Gearbox itself since Borderlands 2 in 2012. The Borderlands 3 trailer itself was finally revealed at the end of an hour-long Gearbox stream at PAX, which was filled with technical problems including a very jittery trailer. The trailer was, however, impressive.

You can check out the full trailer below. Returning Borderlands characters confirmed include a slightly older Tiny Tina, Moxxxi (who’ll have a bar you can visit in the game), Lilith, Brick, and rather surprisingly, Vaughn from Tales of the Borderlands, who’s older and now in charge of Hyperion. Many enemies were shown off, including the new Cultists faction, fire-breathing monsters, and of course, the mutants.

This time players will be able to visit multiple planets. Other than the traditional Borderlands home of Pandora, there was also a giant cityscape, a swampland with huge trees, and what seemed to be an even dusty desert with crashed spaceships. The latter reminded us of Jakku from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Other locations shown included a “Holy Broadcast Center,” which seemed to be a base for the Cult, a building marked “Children of the Vault,” and Ellie’s Scrapyard, which could be connected to the Earl’s Scrapyard missions from the first game.

The trailer also promised “more than one billion guns,” which included a gun with legs that can run at an enemy while firing itself. Yes. No release date was given for Borderlands 3, but more information is apparently coming on April 3. We’ve had plenty of teasers for the game this year alone, so it’s great it’s finally been confirmed, but we’re hopeful we can at least get a release window next month. Hopefully that’ll have a better frame rate and less magic tricks.
