Trine 4 announced, coming this fall

Frozenbyte has narrowed the release window for Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince. The latest in the Trine series is now slated for a fall 2019 release date. However, the Trine 4 release has not been nailed down to a specific day.

Developer Frozenbyte Games formally announced Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince with a new trailer today. The developer had previously said Trine 4 was in development, and would be coming sometime in 2019. The fourth game in the series will be going back to the 2D physics-based platforming of the first two games in the series. The Nightmare Prince follows the three protagonists as they attempt to locate the prince, but find something far more sinister.

Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince features more of the lush artistry of the previous games, alongside exciting co-op adventuring. Frozenbyte recently brought Trine and Trine 2 to the Nintendo Switch, and are releasing Trine 3 on the Nintendo hybrid console later this year. Trine 4 will release simultaneously across the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in fall 2019.

The first two Trine games were well-regarded for their slick 2D gameplay, puzzle elements, co-op, and beautiful graphics. Trine 4 looks to be traveling down a similar path, and is looking lovely as a result. Up to four players can co-op together, either online or locally. The game features a revamped combat system, and unique skill trees for each character.

The Trine Ultimate Collection was also announced today for the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. The collection includes the latest version of all four Trine games, each including all the DLC and additional content. The Trine Ultimate Collection will also release this fall, likely alongside Trine 4. Frozenbyte did not give a reason as to why the full collection is not coming to Nintendo Switch. Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is slated for a $29.99 price point when it goes on sale later this year. Check out the announcement trailer below.
