Trine 4 Release Date

Trine 4 Release Date Period Announced, Titled ‘The Nightmare Prince’

Frozenbyte has announced that Trine 4 The Nightmare Prince is in development, and the developer has even shared the Trine 4 release date period. Unfortunately, the company didn’t share a solid launch day. Trine 4 will release on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch at some point in 2019. No further details have been announced as of writing.

The official Twitter account of the Trine series initially broke the news. It confirms that Trine 4 is currently in development with a planned release date of 2019. This is on all current platforms. The tweet does ask, however, that fans take to the game’s official website for further news. You can see the tweet below:

Gematsu covered the game in a little more detail, however, with details originating from a press release. Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvarinen had the following to say: “Trine 4 is going to be the best in the series. We have rekindled our love for the franchise, heard and seen the fan feedback, and our hearts are set on exceeding those expectations. Trine is back!” Christina Seelye (CEO of Modus Games) added to these sentiments: “We are absolutely thrilled to embark on this journey with Frozenbyte. There’s no doubt Trine 4 will be the game players have been asking for.”

For some context, both the original Trine and Trine 2 were received very well. The original garnered an impressive average review score of 80 on aggregate site Metacritic, whereas its sequel performed even better with an average score of 84. Trine 3, meanwhile, didn’t favor too well. It received an average review score of 68. This is a series known for its slick side-scrolling co-op puzzling gameplay and beautiful graphics. While Trine 3 looks nicest of the lot, it ditched the 2D gameplay of its predecessors in favor of 3D. The move didn’t go over too well and fans and critics alike bemoaned its raft of bugs and short playtime.

Time will tell if Trine 4 The Nightmare Prince reverts back to the series’ 2D roots.
