THQ Nordic acquires Kingdom Come: Deliverance developer

Continuing with their string of acquisitions which includes the Kingdoms of Amalur IP, THQ Nordic has purchased Warhorse Studios. Warhorse Studios is perhaps most well-known for its game Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The game was published by Deep Silver, another company which is now owned by THQ Nordic.

According to GameIndustry.biz, the Czech Republic-based development studio was purchased for around €33.2 million. Warhorse Studios’ Kingdom Come: Deliverance has sold 2 million units since release. Warhorse CEO Martin Fryvaldsky spoke of his excitement about the deal, saying the team “began as a small start-up with a handful of employees who were enthusiastic enough to join this challenging project. We believe that backing by THQ Nordic and Koch Media will give us an extra push in our mission to bring exciting games to our customers and extend the frontiers of the gaming industry.”

The news comes alongside the release of 2018 financial results by the publisher (via GamesIndustry.biz). The most stunning figure comes in the form of THQ Nordic’s net sales. The figure is a remarkable $447.6 million, which is up 713 percent from 2017. The studio’s purchase of Deep Silver and Koch Media is believed to be the pivotal factor in the hugely successful year for the company.

THQ Nordic’s CEO Lars Wingerfors is already looking to the future: “We look forward to our most exciting year ever. By the end of the quarter, we had a record 77 games under development. 48 of these are still in the pipeline waiting to be announced, including a few that are scheduled for release in 2019.”

Along with selling well, Kingdom Come: Deliverance was praised for its challenging take on the RPG genre. Our review called the game “an excellent, open-world RPG that feels like a hardcore version of an Elder Scrolls game.” For those still playing the 2018 release, there are some mods which are a must try for players looking to shake up their experience.
