Last week, I noted that the Vita's sales hardware increase was "just the tip of the iceberg" and described why it was just that. As it turns out, yes indeed, Vita hardware started to fly off shelves once news of the price drop got some advertising and became mainstream knowledge. A multitude of shops had at least a few models and colors of the Vita sold out. Additionally, I noticed a lot of stores were sold out of Senran Kagura this week. One has to wonder what the numbers will look like next week. The releases of Soul Sacrifice and Tales of Hearts-R, along with some fresh stock of Vita systems will probably produce another good week for Vita. For the week of February 25 to March 3, here are the Media Create hardware and software numbers, in that order. Vita didn't take the top, but boy did it ever rise from its usual spot in the dirt.
3DS – 77,439
PSV – 62,543
PS3 – 25,725
PSP – 11,171
WIU – 10,021
WII – 1,383
360 – 486
The Vita outsold the individual SKUs of the 3DS (about 50k for the 3DSXL and 27k for the regular type), but the combined total is higher than Vita's. Still, the number represents about a 600% sales increase compared to what Vita had been averaging. Here are the software numbers:
1. (PS3) Dynasty Warriors 7
2. (3DS) Professor Layton and the Legacy of Civilization A
3. (PSV) Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus
4. (3DS) Dragon Ball Heroes
5. (3DS) Animal Crossing: New Leaf
6. (PS3) Macross 30
7. (PSV) Phantasy Star Online 2 Special Package
8. (PS3) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
9. (PSP) Shining Ark
10. (3DS) Dragon Quest VII
11. (3DS) Osawaritantei Nameko Daihanshoku
12. (PSP) De Capo III Plus
13. (3DS) New Super Mario Bros. 2
14. (3DS) Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
15. (WII) Taiko Drum Master: Super Deluxe Edition
16. (PSV) Hot Shots Golf World Invitational
17. (3DS) Taiko Drum Master: Chibi Dragon and the Mysterious Orb
18. (3DS) Magi: The Beginning of the Labyrinth
19. (3DS) Mario Kart 7
20. (3DS) Fantasy Life
Amid all of this, the Wii-U continued to struggle from a bad case of Nonewsoftwareitus. The month of March will give numbers junkies a fun show for sure.
