Fortnite Secret Skirmish

Fortnite Secret Skirmish competition offers $500,000 in rewards

The Fortnite Secret Skirmish is an invitational two-day event taking place next month, with Epic Games bringing together the ‘top players’ from each Open Fortnite competition to compete. With $500,000 on offer in reward money, Epic has teased that players can expect previously unseen “operations” in the competition, which will likely be streamed for the world to witness.

The event will take place in a “classified, undisclosed testing facility” on February 14 and 15, and Epic has assured that we can expect the same style of competitive battle royale matches seen in previous competitions, in addition to the secret new operations. The Fortnite Secret Skirmish is part of Epic’s preparation for the Fortnite World Cup later this year, with the team promising to announce more details on how viewers can participate in the World Cup:

We’re breaking into 2019 with a special invitational competition called the Secret Skirmish. Don’t tell anyone, but we’ll be awarding $500,000 in prize money for this 2-day event.

This news comes amid rumors of a Fortnite Game of Thrones crossover event, with talk of upcoming White Walker zombies and dragon eggs coming to the game before the end of Season 7. The mysterious Fortnite Icy Sphere is expected to feature in a big event tomorrow, potentially unleashing the Ice King and bringing winter to the Fortnite map.

Fortnite is dominating screen time across the Western hemisphere, so much so that Netflix today reported that Fortnite is bigger competition than HBO or Hulu for them. Epic continues to host massive PR events like the Fortnite Secret Skirmish, raising the profile of the battle royale title, while the game’s presence remains strong on YouTube and Twitch. An extensive money laundering scheme using Fortnite’s V-Bucks was even recently unearthed, purchasing the currency with stolen credit card details and cryptocurrencies and selling them on at discounted rates.
