Mortal Kombat 11 story details and prologue trailer

Mortal Kombat 11 story details have been revealed by NetherRealm Studios. The game’s big reveal stream showcased gameplay, new characters, special celebrity voices, and the story prologue.

The Mortal Kombat 11 story follows the events of Mortal Kombat X. MK X ended with Raiden severing the elder god Shinnok’s head from his body, leaving it as a warning to any threatening Earthrealm. Mortal Kombat 11 introduces Kronika, a powerful time-bending deity who has been manipulating the events of past Mortal Kombat games from afar. Following Raiden’s actions in MK X, Kronika steps in to reset the balance between Earthrealm, Netherrealm, and the other realms in the game’s universe. Kronika’s loyal servant Geras is also able to manipulate time, and the two set out to change the course of the universe.

Kronika, the Keeper of Time and creator of all existence, is kind of a big deal in Mortal Kombat 11. NetherRealm’s Ed Boon has said that characters will meet different versions of themselves throughout the course of the story. While Kronika has never been mentioned in the Mortal Kombat games before, her presence was never necessary before Raiden became corrupted during MK X.

Mortal Kombat 11‘s official gameplay reveal also teased a number of other characters returning to the game. Liu Kang is shown alongside Kung Lao several times, at one point being locked in a cage together. Kitana is also likely to appear in the Mortal Kombat 11 story, as she and Liu Kang had assumed leadership of the Netherrealm at the end of the Mortal Kombat X.

Mortal Kombat 11 will be available April 23, 2019. The latest Mortal Kombat game is coming to Windows, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4. A beta is slated for late-March as a pre-order incentive. Also available through pre-order will be Shao Kahn. A Mortal Kombat 11 Kollector’s Edition includes a replica of Scorpion’s mask and a steel-book game case.
