Game Freak platformer Giga Wrecker Alt coming to consoles later this year

Game Freak is best known for being developers of the mainline Pokemon series. But some seem to forget they are a third party developer, and have made games for other systems beyond just Nintendo. Giga Wrecker is one of these games, and it is coming to consoles later this year under the name Giga Wrecker Alt.

The new console version, which will be out on the Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, will have tons of new content. This includes 20 new campaign stages, a new non-playable companion character that will assist players when they get stuck, an improved localization and a tougher ironman made that will have Reika take five times the usual damage if hit.

According to publisher Rising Star Games, the game will be available both physically and digitally. Limited Run Games will be handling the physical release.

Launching on the PC back in 2017, Giga Wrecker casts you as Reika, who has the power to turn debris into weapons and tools she can use to navigate through areas, such as creating platforms and even spikes that can be jammed into walls.

Game Freak is also working on another non-Pokemon game. A Switch title under the current working name Town was shown off during a Nintendo Direct last September. The RPG will be set entirely in the protagonists town, which is apparently host to a number of secrets.

Of course, Game Freak is also working on the next entry in the Pokemon series. It is scheduled to be released this year, but no information about the game has come out since the initial announcement. The latest Pokemon games, Let’s Go: Pikachu and Eevee. were released back in November.

Other recent games that Game Freak has developed include Pocket Card Jockey and HarmoKnight for the 3DS, Drill Dozer for the Nintendo DS and Tembo the Badass Elephant for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
