Celeste DLC

Celeste DLC will be free, but won’t release before anniversary

The upcoming Celeste DLC will be completely free, announced developer Matt Thorson on Twitter this weekend, but sadly won’t be released in time for the game’s anniversary. After almost a year since the indie platformer released, Thorson says the DLC is “all one continuous chapter” with no B-Side, with new items and mechanics being introduced in these new levels.

After announcing some details on the new Celeste DLC last month, revealing that the ‘very hard’ levels would be the final content released for the game, these levels won’t be released on January 25 as many fans had hoped. Thorson also noted that there will be no strawberries in these levels, and that the DLC will be available on the PC, Ps4, Xbox One, and Switch.

“Matt Thorson –

Some Celeste DLC Chapter details:

-It won’t be ready for the anniversary on Jan 25th, sorry!

-It’s all one continuous chapter, no B-Side

-It’s after the current hardest levels in difficulty

-No strawberries

-There are some new items/mechanics

-Free on all platforms”

After the release of the DLC, the developers will be moving on to as-yet-unannounced projects, canceling the production of Skytorn after six years in development. Since putting the project on hold to finish Celeste, the team would otherwise have to start over with Skytorn’s gameplay and are instead moving on to new ideas.

If you were hoping to get your hands on one of the Celeste Collector’s Editions, you’re out of luck – all 2,000 copies of the PS4 edition and 2,500 copies of the Switch version have now completely sold out in the fortnight since they released. Xbox Gold subscribers can also get the standard edition of Celeste for free in the January ‘Games with Gold’ promotion, until the end of January 2019.

Last month, Celeste took home two awards – Best Indie and Games For Impact – from The Game Awards 2018, winning as many awards as the massively popular Fortnite.
