PS4 foot controller

PS4 foot controller lets you move in VR without wrecking your house

PS4 foot controller has been revealed at CES 2019. The brand-new device from 3DRudder aims to let players move around in virtual reality games while in a seated position, freeing up their hands to focus on other tasks in games. The folks at 3DRudder must have done something right because it helped win a CES Innovation Award in the virtual reality category at 2019’s show as part of their XR Millenium Chair.

The 3DRudder PS4 foot controller operates on a pretty simple premise. Tilting the device in any direction covers two axes of movement and rotating it covers a third. This movement scheme effectively allows you to control pitch, yaw, and roll entirely with your feet, leaving your hands free for other tasks. The PS4 foot controller is a wired device and is clearly intended for use in a seated position—you certainly wouldn’t want to try tilting to the side with a PSVR headset on.

3DRudder’s controller has a relatively short list of games compatible with the device for PS4 including UltrawingsDWVR, and Red Matter. The company states that this is by no means an exhaustive list; quite a few developers are still working on adding compatibility for the PS4 foot controller to their games. 3DRudder expects that the list of compatible games will grow as time goes on. This virtual reality foot controller isn’t exclusive to PS4, either. It’s capable of being used with PC games without too much extra work. The list of compatible games for this platform is expected to grow as well, but it already includes popular titles like Fortnite Battle Royale and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

If you’d like to get your hands on your very own PS4 foot controller, you can buy it from the 3DRudder Store for $119.99 or your regional equivalent. The PS4 version isn’t expected to ship until April 2019, but you can get your hands on one for another platform right now (along with the option for some neat foot pads for added stability). In the meantime, you can check out a demo video showing the controller in action.
